2018 ACVR/IVRA JOINT SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

We know you are planning to attend to learn about new scientific discoveries, gather pearls of clinical knowledge to improve your skills, and to present some of your own exciting work with the best of your colleagues in the field. However the first question on your mind is probably about the social events! We have a selection of Western and cultural activities planned to help you get your cowboy boots dusty and satisfy your wanderlust with experiences in American history and culture.

Tuesday Afternoon and Evening Excursion

Guests enjoy a day in the Fort Worth Stockyards, once the second largest livestock market in the U.S. and now a major entertainment center. The historic Stockyards exemplifies the days of the Old West with lively western saloons, quaint shops and delicious restaurants. Cowtown Coliseum, home to the first indoor rodeo, as well as Stockyards Station, a train station containing distinctive Texas shops are two favorite sights in the district.  This will be the true Ft. Worth experience.  There is much to see and Ultimate Ventures has a special scavenger hunt competition planned to be sure that we get to see it all.  This part of the trip will conclude with the famous cattle drive!

From the Stockyards guests will travel to “River Ranch.”  At River Ranch we will enjoy an authentic Texan barbeque and be thoroughly entertained. The entertainment includes a real Rodeo, just for our group, line dancing complete with instructors, and lots of games. Fire pits, a live band, and ambience will make this a night to remember.  This is a venue that could allow ACVR to tailor the experience to include anything they may like to include.  This will end at approximately 8pm.

From River Ranch members will have 2 options:

  • Those who would like to keep the party going can choose to be dropped off at Billy Bob’s (known as the “world’s largest honky tonk”) for a couple more hours of fun.
  • Those who have had enough fun for one day can be delivered back to the hotel to get a good night’s rest.

Thursday Afternoon Half-Day Excursion

Participants will travel by motor coach to Dallas where they will participate in their choice of two unique experiences:

  • Option 1:  This tour begins with a driving tour of Downtown Dallas, the drive includes a knowledgeable guide to narrate famous sites and landmarks.  Following, guests enjoy an opportunity to walk and explore the famous Grassy Knoll at Dealey Plaza, the site of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Afterwards they visit the Sixth Floor Museum, an educational exhibition examining the life, death, and legacy of John F. Kennedy.
  • Option 2:  Dallas is home to a world-class Arts District that attracts visitors from all over the world. This option will allow guests to visit museums galore.  This will be an incredible opportunity for the art and culture enthusiast.

Both #1 & #2 excursion options begin at 12:30 pm and conclude at 5:30 pm. They will include a bag lunch to enjoy while traveling.
