Signalment & History:

  • 13-yr-old Appendix gelding
  • Presented today for swollen fetlocks
  • Patient was diagnosed with RAO (Recurrent Airway Obstruction) approximately 3 years ago which has been progressively worsening despite therapy (triamcinolone, dexamethasone & ventipulmin PRN)
  • Owners attributed onset of RAO to vaccination prior to onset
  • About a year ago experienced multiple firm swellings, weight loss and general malaise suspected to be secondary to a tick identified and removed in right axillary region
