Description of Program:
The Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, CANADA, invites applications for a 1 year veterinary diagnostic imaging internship.
The program includes training in multiple imaging modalities. The intern will learn to obtain, interpret and dictate both small and large animal routine radiography, ultrasonography, and nuclear scintigraphy cases. Computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and I131 treatment of hyperthyroid cats will also be included. Known case conferences, a journal and book club, as well as diagnostic imaging lectures, will be provided.
Successful candidates will have a DVM or equivalent degree and have completed a small or large animal internship or have equivalent experience. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in Prince Edward Island.
House officers receive substantial medical benefits, with professional liability coverage provided by the University. Two weeks of paid vacation are provided. The program will commence with an orientation process beginning on Wednesday, June 24th, 2009.
Prince Edward Island is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, north of New Brunswick and west of Nova Scotia. The Island is mostly rural and agricultural, with a population of 134,000. The University of Prince Edward Island is located in Charlottetown, the provincial capital and the largest population center on the Island. House officers usually have reasonable free time for exploring the region’s beaches, waterways, recreational trail system and cross-country skiing facilities, and for experiencing the cultural flavour of the Maritimes.
