Description: Clinical Emphasis Faculty Position in Oncology

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time clinical emphasis (clinical-track) faculty position in comparative medical oncology. Candidates must hold a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty board certification (ACVIM- or ECVIM-Oncology) is preferred, but board-eligible candidates will also be considered. Candidates with dual certification and interest in medical and radiation oncology are especially encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in individuals with an interest in contributing to the development and maintenance of a robust veterinary oncology program, including being involved with collaborative clinical and translational research as part of our clinical trials program. The appointee will join the Oncology and Hematology Service within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, which is currently comprised of 3 faculty, 2-3 residents, and 3 technicians.


The Oncology and Hematology Service (www.vet.osu.edu/564.htm) is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Teaching Hospital and referral center that includes a dedicated chemotherapy preparation laboratory, state-of-the-art imaging modalities including 8-slice CT, digital radiography, nuclear scintigraphy, 3 Tesla MRI, linear accelerator for radiation oncology, 24-7 small animal emergency and critical care, a well-staffed medical and surgical hospital, comprehensive comparative oncology laboratory, clinical trials program (www.vet.osu.edu/ClinicalTrials.htm), and a robust graduate (MS/PhD) program.


Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, laboratories, and clinical teaching of medical oncology, hematology and related topics to students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The candidate is expected to foster a broad and diverse large and small animal caseload in medical oncology through the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients and referring private practitioners and the provision of high-quality comprehensive patient care. Faculty are also expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, continuing education, committee service, and curriculum development. 


Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 75% time in clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. Sponsored research is not required for clinical-track faculty, but clinical research, especially collaborative involvement in clinical trials, publications or and/other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. 


Faculty are encouraged to develop collaborative endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College and across the University. The Comparative Oncology Program (www.vet.osu.edu/comparativeOncology.htm) is one of the College’s Signature Programs. Excellent collaborative opportunities are available in the Departments of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine within the College as well as other units across the University campus, including the comprehensive OSU Health Sciences Center, which is within walking distance of the College.
