The Section of Radiology, Department of Clinical Sciences Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is offering a residency program beginning July 15, 2009. The program will consist of 36 months of intensive training in all imaging disciplines of Veterinary Radiology and is combined with pursuit of the MS degree. This residency program is approved by the American College of Veterinary Radiology, and completion of the program will qualify the resident for the ACVR certification examination. The Section of Radiology personnel include 6 ACVR diplomates (one also boarded and one board-eligible in Radiation Oncology), 2-3 residents and 6 technologists. In addition to digital radiology systems, ultrasonography and PACS in the large and small animal hospitals, facilities include fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine (new gamma camera installed in 2008), computed tomography (helical scanner), magnetic resonance imaging (1.0T), whole body DEXA scanner and linear accelerator (6/10 MV with electrons).
Candidates for admission to the residency program must be graduates of a college of veterinary medicine and have completed an internship or have equivalent practice experience. As part of the requirements of the Master of Science degree, the resident will take up to 5 credit hours of academic course work per semester. Assisting in teaching senior veterinary students through lectures, seminars, and clinical rotations is required. The resident is also expected to attend, participate in and contribute to resident seminars during the school year. Membership in the AVMA is required in order to obtain professional liability insurance. Any required work permits or visas are the responsibility of the applicant.
