FACULTY POSITION IN VETERINARY RADIOLOGY

The School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Department of Clinical Studies – Philadelphia invites you to come and be a part of the Penn Vet Radiology Section.

A unique opportunity now exists for an ambitious, dynamic radiologist to join an established, progressive team of young, energetic, board-certified radiologists dedicated to clinical excellence and academic achievement at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. This position is in the Clinical Educator Track and is available immediately. The successful candidate will join our team in the new, purpose built state-of-the-art Rosenthal Imaging and Treatment Center (http://www.vet.upenn.edu/RITC/) which houses our MRI unit, 16-slice CT unit and linear accelerator.

OUR STRENGTHS

Outstanding caseload, with about 7-8,000 small animal imaging studies per year, one of the largest caseloads of all academic radiology sections in the United States

Outstanding equipment including:

• Digital Radiography system, 2 rooms (Canon distributed by Sound-Eklin)
• 4 high-resolution multi-panel work stations (BARCO) in the radiology reading room
• Digital Fluoroscopy equipment (GE, 2 rooms)
• 16-slice helical CT (GE BrightSpeed, with AW4 workstation)
• 2 GE Logiq9 Ultrasound machines (+ 1 GE portable unit in the emergency section).
• 1.5T MRI System (GE LX 1.5T with Scantools 9.1)
• Linear Accelerator Suite (Siemens)
• The MRI unit, CT unit and Linear Accelerator are housed in our Rosenthal Imaging and Treatment Center, an integrated center for the cancer patients.

Outstanding integration of the Radiology Section within the Hospital:

• PACS system (STENTOR)
• Radiology Information System (EMPIRIC RIS)

Outstanding environment with a hospital fully staffed with Board Certified practitioners and teachers, a full technical and administrative support in the Radiology Section (7 technologists, 1 administrative assistant).

Outstanding collegiality with the opportunity to collaborate with and share your knowledge and experience with a team of young and dynamic radiologists, including 1 Associate Professor, 4 staff radiologists, 1 staff Radiation Oncologist and 5 Residents.

Outstanding inter-discipline stimulation/collaboration with the presence of leader/expert veterinarians whose success and expertise reflect in many publications and discoveries. The close association with the Perelman School of Medicine and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences of the University of Pennsylvania offers excellent opportunities for collaborative projects with researchers and clinicians in various fields.

WHO SHOULD YOU BE?

• Veterinarian with advanced training in diagnostic imaging and ACVR or ECVDI Board certification.
• Preference will be given to candidates with advanced training and interest in clinical research.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
• Dedication to student and resident teaching and desire to perform clinical and applied research.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

• The position encompasses a mixture of clinical commitment, teaching, and creative scholarship, the percentage of each of these being negotiable depending on the candidate’s strengths and areas of interest.
• Clinical commitment will be split between radiology, ultrasonography, MRI and CT. If you have a special area of interest, you can spend more of your clinical commitment working with that particular modality. Remember, we want you to be happy in the first place! If you are interested in doing some large animal imaging, time will be allowed for you to work at the New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, which has also an outstanding imaging facility for large animals.
• Teaching responsibilities will include: 1) participation in lectures and laboratories in the VMD professional curriculum; 2) clinical teaching in the Teaching Hospital; and 3) participation in the graduate clinical (resident) training program of the Penn Radiology section.
• Clinical Research Opportunities: Faculty members are expected to advance the clinical discipline through creation and dissemination of new knowledge with documentation in peer-reviewed publications. That said, in light of the flexibility in the way time is split between clinics, teaching and scholarly activity, it is understood that the type of scholarly activity may focus primarily on integrating/improving clinical care, conducting clinical research studies, and/or improving veterinary medical education. If the candidate has a strong interest in research, starting money will be available to get on track with stimulating, exciting research projects.
