Tired of competing for support staff? Frustrated by having to schedule your procedures around other doctor’s patients due to lack of room? Surprised to find that you are expected to perform work outside of your specialty? Wish you had some great colleagues to consult with on a daily basis? If you find working in a stimulating and collegial environment appealing, then VCA Southpaws Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Center is the perfect next step in your career.

SouthPaws is a multi-specialty practice in the Washington, D.C. area. We’ve had a three Radiologist imaging department for years, but Dr. Toal is retiring, so we need to add one to join Dr. Matt Nelson, DACVR and Dr. Cynthia Sloan, DACVR.

SouthPaws has lots of “perks” for RADIOLOGISTS including …

  • Dedicated Radiology staff.
  • Two DR digital radiology suites (TXR/Universal AP500 high frequency generator; Sedecal APR-Vet; Sound-Eklin Varian imaging plates), CT scan (Toshiba Asteion 4-slice helical whole body CT scanner with VetPACS Helix 3D software platform), Fluoroscopy (integrated with Sedecal radiology unit), C-arm, two ultrasound machines (GE Logiq 9; Toshiba PowerVision 6000) with plans to add a third (GE P6), dedicated ultrasound suite, and separate reading room. MRI is currently performed off-site at a dedicated MRI center (AnimalScan)
  • Radiologists perform all in-patient and outpatient ultrasound exams seven days a week.
  • All radiographs and CT scans interpreted by radiologists.
  • 24 exam rooms – so other departments won’t try to use radiology’s space!
  • Rapid in-house lab machines (CBC, chemistry, electrolyte, coag monitors and more) for quick service to outpatients and inpatients, plus an Antech lab right in our building for quick turnarounds on labwork.
  • 24/7 doctors/nurses in our emergency and critical care unit to manage our patients overnight, holidays, and weekends. This service also facilitates sick-patient, same day urgent referrals.
  • Full time surgery, medical and radiation oncology (linear accelerator and I131 therapies), neurology, ophthalmology, emergency/critical care and internal medicine specialists to help provide multimodality patient care and support. Pet rehabilitation and holistic care also available on site. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy on site.
  • Affiliation with the Animal Clinical Investigations and VCA allowing participation in large clinical research trials.
  • Teaching opportunities through our internship and student extern programs, as well as continuing education seminars for our local veterinarians.
  • A lovely 34,000 square foot hospital.
  • An excellent reputation over the last 18 years supporting our referring veterinarians in the Washington DC region’s veterinary community.
  • Competitive salary and great benefits package, including Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage, Life and Long-Term Disability Insurance, 401(k) retirement savings plan, Continuing Education allowance, and Professional Liability Coverage.
  • SouthPaws is located in Fairfax County, VA offering outstanding quality of life for singles and for families.
  • Public schools that are ranked among the best in the country and nearby universities including Georgetown, George Washington, George Mason, and the University of Maryland as well as the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech satellite campuses.
  • An educated, affluent population with the country’s strongest economy and career opportunities for spouses.
  • Exciting and vibrant nightlife, trend-setting restaurants; cultural, historical and international events unique to Washington, D.C.
  • Easy access to recreational opportunities such as sailing, boating, fishing, hiking, riding and five professional sports teams.
