Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre is seeking a Veterinary Radiologist to join our specialty referral and 24-hour emergency practice in Calgary, Alberta.

This position offers an outstanding opportunity to work in a fast-paced clinical setting and to participate in our team-based approach to patient care. Our referral base is large, with approximately 40 referring hospitals in our 1.2 million person trade area.  Twenty of these hospitals in Calgary are partner clinics from whom we draw referrals to all services.

For the academic oriented candidates, there is an opportunity to teach at the University of Calgary's recently established College of Veterinary Medicine. We also train interns and students at our hospital. Research opportunities are also available through collaboration with the veterinary school.

Our highly accomplished team includes Specialists in Emergency/Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Medical and Radiation Oncology. We feature a newly renovated intensive care unit and 24-hour staffing for the treatment and monitoring of patients. State-of-the-art equipment includes a Linear Accelerator, new CT machine, ultrasound, digital radiology, fluoroscopy, laparoscopy and off site access to MRI.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university.
  • Residency training with board eligibility or certification in Veterinary Radiology.
  • Ability to become licensed to practice in the province of Alberta.
  • Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, friendly attitude.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish a good rapport with referring veterinarians, including: timely professional and respectful communication; assistance in their professional growth and education through recommendations and interaction on referred and shared cases; ongoing development of a positive and professional working relationship; participation in Continuing Education involving the local referral community.
  • Assist in the development and training of the paraprofessional team to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care and exceptional client service.
  • Assist with marketing the services of the specialty practice through a variety of outreach programs, some of which include: making hospital visits to referring veterinarians, assisting with local CE meetings, answering calls from referring veterinarians in a timely fashion, helping with production of hospital newsletters and case reports.
  • Assist with the training of interns and residents, under the guidance of the Intern and Medical Directors.
  • Positively represent the hospital in the professional community and to the general public.
