Findings Expected from Candidate

The candidates were expected to recognize the presence of gas and fluid distended small bowel indicative of a distal small intestinal obstruction. A secondary finding is moderate gas and fluid/ingesta distension of the stomach.

Conclusion Expected from the Candidate

An appropriate differential diagnosis would include intussusception, foreign body, intestinal neoplasia and stricture. Functional causes of obstruction would be less likely due to the segmental nature of the small bowel distention.
